Frequently Asked Questions
How much do I get paid for my bottles?
In the Alberta recycling program, there are two different refund amounts depending strictly on size of container.
For material streams 1L or less, you will receive 10 cents
For material streams over 1L, you will receive 25 cents
Please refer to our refund amounts page for more information.
How can I make my visit to the bottle depot faster?
To speed through the line and make your visit faster, you can sort your containers by material (ex. aluminum, plastic bottles, tetra-pak, etc.)
You can also take it a step further by sorting AND counting material streams! First, seperate by size (0-1L and over 1L) and then by material (aluminum, plastics, tetra-pak, glass, etc.)
Note that this is not a requirement. Our friendly staff will do this for you regardless!
How does a bottle drive work?
Organizing a successful bottle drive can be a rewarding experience! Start by selecting a convenient date and gather your containers door-to-door in your neighborhood or set up a drop-off point at a local school, park, or community center. Be sure to spread the word to friends, family, and neighbors to maximize participation. For more detailed assistance, visit our bottle drive page, where you will find a helpful step-by-step guide designed to make the process easy and efficient. Additionally, don’t forget to utilize our user-friendly scheduling app, which ensures a seamless booking experience for everyone involved!
Should I flatten my containers before I come in?
While it is perfectly okay to flatten milk jugs, juice boxes, and various types of containers to help save some precious space during your recycling journey, we kindly ask that you refrain from flattening aluminum materials. Doing so can pose a risk to our hard-working staff while also making it quite challenging to identify the brand on the containers. Feel free to bring your items in just as they are; there is absolutely no need to flatten any containers before coming in! Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Do I need to empty and rinse my containers?
Yes, please empty and rinse your containers before bringing them in. Doing so allows us to sort and count your material and prevent spoiled milk and juices from stinking up the depot!
